Qirkz in The Hunter, originally named Hotel Denman, is an old gem from a bygone era, complete with creaky floors and ghost stories that would give Casper a run for his ectoplasmic money. We decided to dive headfirst into the chaos of renovation, thinking it would be as easy as throwing a shrimp on the barbie - well, realistically we weren't so cavalier, but we didn't expect it to be a bottomless pit of dissolving dollars. Little did we know that finding money for repairs and renovations would be like searching for buried treasure in a sea of Vegemite jars.
Our renovation plans involved more tradespeople than there are marsupials in Australia, and let's not even talk about the cost! Some days, we felt like pulling our hair out, wondering if we'd ever see the light at the end of the renovation tunnel.
But fear not, fellow adventurers! Despite the challenges, we've been having an absolute ripper of a time. You see, the Hunter Valley isn't just famous for its wine; it's also home to some of the grooviest entertainers and the quirkiest patrons around. They've been our saving grace and our source of endless smiles.
The atmosphere at Qirkz is electric, the vibe is as vibrant as a neon kangaroo sign on the road to Cessnock, and the entertainers?
